Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to work in a team to set up, pour and place concrete tilt panels to form internal and external walls for building structures on residential, commercial or civil construction sites.It includes on-site and prefabricated methods of panel construction used to construct internal and external walls of structures. It applies to concreters working as members of a team with at least a moderate degree of autonomy. They would be expected to complete routine activities without close supervision.Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency in all states and territories except Tasmania. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm these requirements.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Plan and prepare to construct tilt panels on site.
  • Review and clarify task to construct tilt panels on site.
  • Review design of tilt panel from job drawings and specifications, and check to make sure it is in accordance with legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
  • Review work health and safety (WHS) requirements for the task in accordance with safety plans and policies.
  • Identify safety signage and barricade requirements.
  • Review environmental requirements for the task in accordance with environmental plans and legislative requirements.
  • Select plant, tools and equipment, check for serviceability and rectify or report any faults
  • Calculate material quantity requirements.
  • Acquire materials for the task and locate them safely ready for use.
       
Element: Set out and construct temporary casting bed.
  • Erect identified safety signage and barricades, and fit personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Select a suitable area to construct casting bed in accordance with project requirements.
  • Prepare the ground to a flat surface in preparation for casting bed.
  • Place and finish casting bed to project requirements.
  • Coat casting bed with bond breaker in accordance with product specifications.
       
Element: Set out work and prepare formwork for panel.
  • Erect identified safety signage and barricade requirements, and fit personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Set out location and size of tilt panel to requirements of job drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare, place and fix tilt panel edge formwork, and plumb and align to specifications.
  • Apply bond breaker to casting bed face or casting form face of previous panel to ensure ease of panel separation, in accordance with manufacturer’s dose and quantity recommendations.
  • Apply form release agent to formwork in accordance with specifications.
       
Element: Place and tie reinforcement and cast-in fittings
  • Check reinforcement, accessories and cast-in fittings for conformity with design and engineering specifications.
  • Position reinforcement, accessories and cast-in fittings in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Position tie and/or weld reinforcement in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
       
Element: Place, finish and cure concrete.
  • Place concrete evenly and consolidate to specification using approved vibration method.
  • Screed and finish concrete surface to specification ensuring cast-in fittings are clear.
  • Apply curing process.
  • Apply bond breaker to casting bed face of previous panel to ensure ease of panel separation.
  • Strip edge formwork after final panel is cast, ensuring no damage to panels.
       
Element: Clean up after constructing tilt panels on site.
  • Clear work area daily and dispose of, reuse or recycle materials in accordance with legislation, regulations, codes of practice and task requirements.
  • Clean, check, maintain and store plant, tools and equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications and workplace requirements.

Assessment Tasks
